Laboratory Facilities

The department has got well established laboratories like Mass Transfer Operations, Heat Transfer Operations, Solid Fluid Operations, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Fluid Flow Operations, Instrumentation and Process Control, Hydrocarbon Technology, Chemistry etc.

To enable students to understand the fundamentals of mass transfer operations, the laboratory is equipped with the experimental set-ups related to separation processes and students are exposed to hands on experiments. The laboratory also enables students to carryout projects very effectively. The laboratory caters the need of experiments for UG programme.

Major Equipment: Sieve Plate Distillation column, Packed Bed Distillation Column, Bubble Cap distillation Column, Fluidised Bed Dryer, Forced Draft Tray Dryer, Ion Exchange, Cooling tower.

To enable students to understand the basic of testing and characterisation of petroleum products, the laboratory is equipped with the different equipment and students are exposed to hands on experiments. The laboratory also enables students to carry out their project effectively. The laboratory caters the need of experiments for UG programmes.

Major Equipment : Engler Viscometer, Abels Flash Point Apparatus, Cloud & Pour Point Apparatus, Aniline Point Apparatus, Reid Vapour Pressure Test App, Cleveland Flash & Fire point Apparatus, Pensky Martin Flash Point Apparatus, Redwood Viscometer, Smoke Point Apparatus, ASTM Distillation Apparatus

To enable students to understand the operation of equipment and understand the basics of heat transfer operations and systems, the laboratory is equipped with the experimental set-ups and students are exposed to hands-on experiments. The laboratory also enables students to carry out projects very effectively. The laboratory caters the need of experiments for UG program.

Major Equipment: Study various modes of heat transfer equipment like conduction, forced and natural convection, radiation, etc. apparatus for measurement of critical radius, different types of heat exchangers like double pipe, shell & tube, pin fin, etc.

The laboratory is well equipped with basic and advanced equipment in Reaction Engineering. The laboratory is capable of determining the kinetics of some simple reactions. Major equipment include different kinds of reactors like CSTR, PFR, coil tube reactor etc, pH meters and conductivity meters for analysis, manganic stirrers, hot plates etc.  Many of the equipment are fabricated in house as a part of student?s project. Apart from equipment/instruments the laboratory has got all the required consumables required for conducting the kinetic experiments.

To enable students with hands-on operations of basic fluid flow operations, the laboratory is equipped with all fundamentally needed instruments. It caters to the needs of experiments for UG programmes.

Major Equipment : Hydraulic bench with Orificemeter, Venturimeter, Rotameter, etc., Pitot tube, Notches, Bernoulli?s set up, Redwood Viscometer, etc.

The hands-on experience provided in such a laboratory can help students gain a deeper understanding of theoretical concepts and practical applications. Temperature measurement, level detection, pressure measurement, and flow measurement are all critical parameters to monitor and control in many industrial processes. It’s great that the laboratory has instruments for all of these parameters, as it will allow students to learn how to measure and control them in different scenarios. Valves are also critical components in many control systems, as they help regulate the flow of fluids or gases. Having different control configurations set up on different panels or rigs is also a great way to teach students how different control systems work and how to achieve specific control objectives. It will allow students to see how the same instruments and valves can be arranged in different ways to achieve different outcomes. The Instrumentation and Process Control laboratory is a valuable resource for students studying chemical engineering.

To enable students to understand the basic solid fluid operations, the laboratory is equipped with the different equipment and students are exposed to hands on design experiments. The laboratory also enables students to carry out their project effectively. The laboratory caters the need of experiments for UG programmes.
