Interaction with Alumni:
On January 11th, 2024, Mr. Vikram Kataria (Batch-2017-2021), Director- The VEDAS, was invited by the Chemical Engineering Department for an alumni interaction. He talked to the students on the topic of “International business and e-commerce, opportunities for Indian products in the world”. Mr. Kataria commenced the session by providing an overview of the landscape of international business and e-commerce. He emphasized the transformative impact of digitalization and globalization on trade dynamics, opening up new avenues for Indian businesses to access global markets. He also told the students about his green tea brand “The Vedas”. Mr. Kataria highlighted key trends in e-commerce, such as the rise of online marketplaces, mobile commerce, and the increasing demand for convenience and personalized shopping experiences.
On February 15, 2024, the department had the honor of hosting Mr. Vinay Nayar, an esteemed alumnus from the batch of 2004-2008. Mr. Nayar, currently based in Ramboll, UK, generously dedicated his time to conduct a session titled “Life Away from Home.” The session was aimed at providing valuable insights and guidance to 4th-semester undergraduate students, offering them a glimpse into the real-world experiences and career journey of a successful professional.
On the 27th of March, 2024, the students of Semester-VI of the Department of Chemical Engineering had the immense pleasure of interacting with their Alumnus, Mr. Poorvesh Sanghvi, a graduate of the 2021 Batch, during 11 AM to 12 PM on the topic of “Marketing as a career option and About MBA”. He is currently pursuing his MBA from the Pandit Deendayal Energy University.
On January 16th, 2024, Mr. Arpit Bhatt (Batch-2007-2011), Senior Researcher, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, was invited by the Chemical Engineering Department for an alumni interaction. He conducted this interaction on “Life as a Researcher: Beyond Basic Chemical Engineering”.
Mr. Bhatt initiated the session by providing an overview of his journey as a researcher and the diverse opportunities available in the field. He emphasized the importance of curiosity, creativity, and perseverance in pursuing a career in research. Mr. Bhatt discussed the significance of interdisciplinary research in addressing complex challenges and driving innovation.
On February 9th, 2024, the Department of Chemical Engineering invited Mr. Jugal Patel, Manager, Reaction Modeling and Engineering team, R & D -Reliance Industries Ltd., a distinguished alumnus from the batch 2016 – 2020. He talked to the students on the topic of “Introduction to CFD and its application across the industry”. Mr. Patel shared insights into Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and its diverse applications across industries.
Mr. Lakin Naik (Batch: 2009-2013) visited the department to deliver a talk on “Welcome to the Industry” for the VII semester students. The session was designed to provide students with practical insights into various career opportunities available to chemical engineering graduates and prepare them to transition from academia to industry.
Ms. Darshana Poshiya (Batch: 2015-2017) visited the department to deliver an insightful talk on “Why Civil Services” for the students. She completed her Environmental Engineering degree at GEC Bhuj and pursued her M.Tech at Nirma University. Ms. Poshiya has recently achieved a significant milestone by clearing the GPSC Class 1-2 Civil Services examinations and is set to assume the role of Assistant Commissioner of State Tax in the Government of Gujarat.
Mr. Nirav Shah (Batch: 1995-1999) visited the department on 18th July 2024 to deliver a talk on “Thoughts of Power & Struggle Faced in Industry cum Professional Life“ in A-108 for the students. Mr. Shah, an alumnus of the inaugural batch of Chemical Engineering at Nirma University, completed his B.Tech in 1999 and later pursued his MBA in Operations and Marketing. Currently, he serves as Deputy Manager at Reliance Industries Limited, Jamnagar. The session was designed to provide students with valuable insights into the real-world challenges and struggles faced in professional life, particularly during the early career stages, and strategies to overcome them.
Mr. Nirav Pandya (Batch: 2014-2017) visited the department virtually on 18th July 2024 to deliver a talk on “From Campus to Corporate” for the students. He completed his BE in Environmental Engineering from Gujarat Technology University in 2014 and pursued his M.Tech in Environmental Process Design from Nirma University, graduating in 2017. Currently, he serves as a Senior Engineer in Safety & Environment at Hindalco Industries Limited, bringing over 8.5 years of valuable industry experience. The session focused on preparing students for their transition from academic life to the corporate world, with particular emphasis on the interview process and professional presentation. The interactive session was structured to cover three crucial phases: pre-interview preparation, interview performance, and post-interview follow-up.
Mr. Atik Sheikh (Batch: 2011) visited the department virtually on 19th July 2024 to deliver a talk on “Role of Chemical Engineering in Climate Change” for the students. He completed his BE in Chemical Engineering from Nirma Institute of Technology in 2011 and pursued his MBA in Energy & Environment from Symbiosis Institute of International Business. Currently, he serves as a Climate Change Expert in the Project Management Unit at the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The session aimed to enlighten students about the critical intersection of chemical engineering and climate change mitigation efforts, focusing on decarbonization strategies and their implementation in industry and policy frameworks.
The annual NITAA meet was arranged on 7th Jan 2023 in the University where several alumni from past years joined with there families and had a fruitful interaction.
As a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, the students of the Chemical Engineering Department got the opportunity to interact with the alumni of the ’98 batch on November 5, 2019. Dr Jayesh Ruparelia, Head, Chemical Engineering Department welcomed all alumni and introduced them to the students. The alumni shared their journey which began after pursuing their bachelors and also shared how they transformed their vast experience in diversified fields to reap rich dividends. They provided valuable insights related to industries, the latest research fields and guidelines for placement interviews.
They emphasised on time management, and also stressed on the triangle of life-health, time and money. Their motto of life that they discussed with the students was “Life is full of challenges, one should not be afraid of failures and must overcome them to walk on the stepping stones of success.” The session was quite interactive and the students were very inquisitive to know about what challenges one faces in the real world, which was answered quite relevantly and the answers satisfied the students.
