Course on Watershed Management: Principles to Practice

Water stress is a real risk for industries and communities alike.
As factories, supply chains, and farms draw from the same shrinking water sources, understanding how watersheds are assessed, restored, and managed has become relevant across sectors.

The Chemical Engineering Department, in collaboration with Global Water Innovation Centre for Action (GWICA hosted an offline on October 9, 2026. The day-long course was coordinated by Dr. Leena V. Bora, with the leadership of Dr. Milind H. Joshipura from IT-NU and Dr. Dhaval Patel and Ms. Yamini Mehra from Team GWICA. The experts, Dr. Anant Patel and Dr. Keval Jodhani from the Civil Engineering Department shed light on relevant topics like Hydrological processes and selection of watershed structures, Feasibility, planning and sustainable implementation of watershed interventions.

The workshop was held at the dedicated Water Centre at Arvind Limited, Santej in Ahmedabad, bringing together experts and industry practitioners to explore watershed assessment, restoration techniques, and field-based case studies from water-stressed regions.
This workshop witnessed 32 participants from relevant sectors spanning  Corporates and CSR teams: managing water risk and supporting backward supply chain resilience, ESG and sustainability professionals: building technical grounding for water stewardship strategy, NGOs and development practitioners: strengthening on-ground watershed and community interventions, Government and policy officials: informing regional water planning and conservation
policy, Graduate students: gaining field-relevant technical skills in civil and environmental engineering.
