An Interdisciplinary Major Research Project titled “Performance Enhancement of Solar Operated Humidifier – Dehumidifier Desalination System for Sustainable Freshwater Production” worth approx. Rs. 24 lakhs is granted to Dr. Sanjay Jain (PI), Dr. Leena Bora (Co-PI) [Asst. Professor, Chemical Eng. Dept], Dr. Balkrushna Shah (Co-PI) and Dr. Niraj Shah (Co-PI) funded by Nirma University for a duration of three years.
The project aims to design and develop a freshwater production system equipped with a Humidifier – Dehumidifier Desalination System that is functionalised by natural sunlight. It aspires to empower rural and water-scarce communities by providing a decentralised, solar-powered desalination system that ensures reliable access to clean water without dependence on costly centralised infrastructure.
By fostering self-sufficiency, reducing groundwater depletion, and enabling local skill development, it strengthens resilience against climate change while advancing SDGs 6, 11, and 15.
